Shillong: Meghalaya escaped the lowest tier of the national school education index. Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui confirmed the state climbed two grades in the latest Performance Grading Index. It reached the Akanshi-1 category for the first time.
The state scored 525.7 points this cycle. That beats the 448 points recorded in the previous assessment. Scores have climbed steadily over four years. The state gained over 124 points since the 2022-23 cycle. Progress is real.
Rymbui credited the surge to major policy shifts. The state rolled out a structured pay framework for teachers and modernized school administration. New infrastructure projects funded by the Samagra Shiksha scheme and the Asian Development Bank helped too. Officials also opened a dedicated Teacher Training Academy.
"The improved PGI ranking is the result of the combined efforts of teachers, education officials, school management committees and other stakeholders working to enhance educational outcomes in Meghalaya," Rymbui stated. The government plans to keep pushing for better literacy and stronger governance across all schools.
