Meghalaya Halts Foreign Travel for Officials Following PM's Austerity Call

Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has halted all new foreign travel proposals for state officials to comply with a recent call for austerity from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Chief Minister confirmed that he has also personally cancelled his own scheduled overseas visits to support these national directives.

While new travel plans are now blocked, some delegations currently abroad were allowed to complete their trips. Sangma explained that these visits received political and financial clearances from the Centre months before the Prime Minister's announcement. These missions required extensive planning, and the state had already finalized bookings and incurred expenses well in advance.

The administration has already set aside seven to eight new requests for international travel that arrived after the Prime Minister issued the austerity mandate. Sangma noted that his government is committed to following these fiscal guidelines in the interest of the nation, even without a formal notification being issued yet.
