Shillong: The Meghalaya government has approved a new set of regulations aimed at curbing VIP culture by standardizing the use of name boards on official vehicles. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma announced the decision following a recent Cabinet meeting, emphasizing that the move seeks to bring consistency and order to how government vehicles are marked.

The Transport Department has finalized a specific list of individuals and positions eligible to display name boards. This update follows previous government efforts to regulate the use of sirens and flashing lights on official transport. The new policy mandates a uniform appearance for these signs, ensuring that boards are formatted according to the official designation of the user.

According to the Chief Minister, the approved list covers a wide range of government branches. This includes officials from the administrative wing, the judiciary, and certain statutory positions tied to the central government. By defining exactly who is authorized to use these boards and how they must look, the state hopes to eliminate unauthorized displays and simplify oversight across various departments.
