Meghalaya government reviews Mawsynram power franchisee operations

Shillong: The Meghalaya government is reviewing the operations of SAI Computer, the franchisee managing power distribution in the Mawsynram subdivision. Power Minister Metbah Lyngdoh confirmed the move after receiving persistent complaints from local residents and representatives regarding billing errors, frequent power outages, and poor service.

Local MLAs have met with the minister twice to address these issues on behalf of their constituents. While the government aims to improve service delivery, the process remains complicated by ongoing legal proceedings in the High Court of Meghalaya.

Lyngdoh explained that the government must proceed with caution to avoid legal conflicts. "We have to be careful because any decision taken by the government should not infringe upon matters already under consideration by the High Court," he stated.

The minister recently discussed the situation with Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma. Following that meeting, the Power Department received directives to resolve consumer grievances while ensuring that any actions taken remain compliant with the active court case.
