Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma introduced a series of major education reforms during a felicitation ceremony held by the All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers Association in Tura. The event, hosted at the Matchakolgre LP School Playground, honored the Chief Minister for his commitment to the region's academic development.
A core feature of the new initiative is the Chief Minister's Leadership in Education and Development, or CM LEAD, fellowship. This program aims to recruit young professionals to foster innovation and drive reform across all 12 districts in the state. To improve administrative efficiency, Sangma also launched a new e-office management and accounting system for the Meghalaya Board of School Education, which is designed to increase financial accountability and transparency.
During the program, officials flagged off 27 vehicles to help staff better monitor schools and improve mobility at the grassroots level. Addressing the crowd, the Chief Minister emphasized that the government is prioritizing conceptual learning over traditional rote memorization. He noted that recent improvements in SSLC examination results are a direct result of targeted interventions like the CM IMPACT guidebooks.
Sangma acknowledged the struggles of SSA teachers, stating that the government is committed to addressing their concerns regarding job security and professional dignity. Education Department Secretary Vijay Kumar Mantri reaffirmed this focus on governance and technological integration. The celebration concluded with cultural performances, including a traditional Wangala dance, highlighting the local heritage of the Garo Hills.
