Shillong: Meghalaya BJP chief spokesperson Mariahom Kharkrang is hunting a ghost. A scammer is running a fake Facebook profile under his name. The impersonator targets victims by asking for WhatsApp numbers and peddling unsolicited goods. They also hunt for cash. This is the fourth time someone has stolen his identity for a scam.
Kharkrang is a retired IPS officer. He knows how this game works. He filed a formal FIR with the police to shut it down. The politician confirmed he runs no businesses and never asks for financial help online. He told the public, "Treat any such messages as fraudulent and to immediately report suspicious interactions to the nearest police station."
Stay sharp. Do not engage with the profile or hand over your digits. If you get a message, head straight to the cops.
