BJP Eyes Mariahom Kharkrang for Shillong Bypoll

Shillong: The Bharatiya Janata Party is leaning toward fielding chief spokesperson Mariahom Kharkrang for the Shillong Parliamentary by-election. Party insiders suggest the former police officer holds the top spot for the nomination. He is the clear frontrunner. Since joining the party, Kharkrang has handled organizational duties and regularly pushed back against opposition attacks.

Several other hopefuls are also seeking the party ticket. The bypoll follows the death of sitting MP Ricky A.J. Syngkon this past February. It left a major gap in the seat. The Election Commission will finalize the schedule once the Special Summary Revision exercise wraps up and the final electoral rolls hit the public record. Party sources confirmed the candidate selection process is moving quickly, noting that the former officer is "likely to receive the ticket."
