Shillong: The Meghalaya BJP plans to wait until after the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls concludes to name a candidate for the Shillong parliamentary by-election. Party chief spokesperson Mariahom Kharkrang confirmed the timeline on September 4.
The Election Commission will set the official polling schedule once the revised rolls go public. Kharkrang remains unfazed by the potential for a late announcement. He insists that a one-month window is enough time to mount a competitive campaign. The party is ready.
Kharkrang highlighted the strength of existing party structures in every constituency. Mandals and booth-level committees are already working on the ground. Describing the group, Kharkrang said the BJP is a “well-oiled, well-organised party” with the reach needed to mobilize fast once the candidate is picked.
