Meghalaya BJP leadership dodges questions on youth leader's violent post

Shillong: Meghalaya BJP leaders are dodging the fallout from a social media post by Youth Wing President Mewaker Lyngdoh Pakma. Pakma suggested protesters at Jantar Mantar should be shot. State general secretary Wankitbok Pohshna refused to discuss the Instagram post on Tuesday. He claimed individual accounts are not worth commenting on. He also stayed quiet when asked if the party planned to discipline Pakma.

Pohshna steered the conversation toward what he called important issues. He instead lashed out at the Jharkhand government over their handling of student protests in Ranchi. He took aim at the Congress and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha alliance. He called their police response to employment protests barbaric.

Pohshna condemned the state for attacking unarmed protesters. "The sheer brutality with which the government of the Congress and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has rained batons on unarmed, innocent students is highly unfortunate," he said. He labeled the ruling coalition a Thug-bandhan. He insisted the country is watching the disciplined struggle of students facing what he described as merciless atrocities.
