Shillong: Meghalaya BJP is shielding youth wing president Mewaker Lyngdoh Pakma following a violent post on his social media accounts. The party claims his profile was hacked. Yet they refuse to file a formal police complaint. No FIR exists two days after the incident.
The trouble started when Pakma’s Facebook and Instagram accounts posted, "Shoot them! Tear gas ain’t enough!" The message included the hashtag UAPA_Sedition. It targeted student protesters at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.
BJP spokesperson Arnab Das insists the party does not stand by the post. He claims the hackers deleted the evidence once the public lashed out. Das says Pakma denies writing the message. Despite this, the party has not approached the police to investigate the alleged security breach.
The Hynniewtrep Youths’ Council is now demanding accountability. HYC President Roy Kupar Synrem condemned the post. He wants enforcement agencies to book Pakma for the threat. Synrem said, "Just because we protested, it does not mean we are against the government." He maintains that citizens have a constitutional right to dissent without facing intimidation from political figures.
