Meetei IDP Committee Denounces Torbung Firing

Imphal: The Apex Committee of Meetei Internally Displaced Persons lashed out at Kuki militants following a midnight shooting in Torbung Maning. The gunfire erupted at 11:30 p.m. on July 3 in Bishnupur district. It shattered the silence of the night.

Committee members warned that the violence endangers civilian safety and stalls fragile efforts to restore order in Manipur. They called on authorities to launch a full investigation, identify the gunmen, and move quickly to make arrests. Security forces must lock down vulnerable areas to stop these attacks before they spiral further.

The group emphasized its dedication to protecting those pushed out of their homes by the ongoing conflict. They issued a formal statement saying the incident serves as a "threat to civilian safety and ongoing efforts to restore peace in the state."

Local groups including the Torbung United Club and various youth organizations joined the call for accountability. The committee now demands that all stakeholders stop the fighting and work toward lasting harmony.
