Imphal: The Churachandpur Doctors Association has formally condemned a series of violent incidents that disrupted operations at the Churachandpur District Hospital on Wednesday night. The unrest followed the arrival of three men of Kuki descent who were transferred from the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal after intense public protests.

Authorities reported that a fire broke out in parts of the facility, and investigators believe the blaze was intentional. Beyond the fire, unknown individuals attempted to breach the hospital operation theatre, vandalized property, and successfully burglarized the office of the Chief Medical Officer. The facility serves as the primary government referral site for the entire region.

In an official statement regarding the safety of the staff and patients, the association urged the community to prioritize order. They stated, "Keeping in mind that the district hospital is the first referral government hospital serving the people of Churachandpur and its neighbouring districts, we earnestly appeal to the public to maintain peace, exercise restraint, and kindly cooperate in preserving the sanctity of the hospital environment."

The three patients at the center of the conflict were injured during a reported shooting near Leilon Munlui on June 15. Members of the Naga and Meitei communities had gathered at the Imphal hospital earlier this week to demand their removal, labeling them as militants. Meanwhile, Kuki organizations argued the men should never have been admitted to the Imphal facility due to the ongoing ethnic tensions in Manipur.
