Mawsynram MLA Pushes for Direct Road Link to Sohra to Boost Tourism

Shillong: Mawsynram MLA Olan Sing Suin is championing a new infrastructure plan to connect Mawsynram and Sohra, aiming to transform the region into a premier tourism hub in Meghalaya. Suin recently discussed the proposal with Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, arguing that a direct route would bridge the two primary destinations.

The plan involves building a bridge across the Umiam River to connect existing roads between Dewsaw and Nongwar. Suin noted that infrastructure is already in place on both sides of the riverbank, saying, "Such connectivity would establish both Mawsynram and Sohra as premier destinations in Meghalaya."

If completed, this circuit would allow tourists to travel seamlessly between the living root bridges in Sohra and the Rain Museum currently under construction in Mawsynram. The MLA remains focused on regional growth through several ongoing road projects.

Construction is already moving forward on the road from Phlangwanbroi to Ranikor. Additionally, the World Bank funded project connecting Welloi to Phlangwanbroi is currently in the tendering stage. Officials expect this tender process to conclude by the end of June, and Suin hopes to see both projects finished within two years.
