Manipur Women Protest NIA Arrests of Arambai Tengol Members

Imphal: Members of the Apunba Meira Paibi Lup swarmed Keishampat Junction on Tuesday. They demanded the state free several Arambai Tengol members taken by the National Investigation Agency. Police blocked the main protest group at 3 p.m. to stop them from reaching Lok Bhavan.

Officers eventually let a small delegation pass. The group delivered a formal memorandum to the Governor of Manipur. Protesters claim the NIA grabbed youths from their homes between June 18 and 19. They say authorities never issued arrest memos during the raids.

The group insists these men already handed over illegal weapons. They point to a February 20, 2025, appeal from Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla. The memorandum stated: "The Meira Paibi movement would not remain silent if such actions continued."

The women warned of more intense protests if the government ignores them. They want the immediate release of everyone in custody. Tensions remain high in the capital following the crackdown.
