Manipur Sport Climbing Association Marks 10th Anniversary with Awards and Training

Imphal: The Manipur Sport Climbing Association (MASCA) marked its 10th anniversary on Tuesday with a ceremony at the MMTA Complex in Imphal. The event brought together local officials, including chief guest Sunil Elangbam and guest of honor PH Chandrakumar Singh, to celebrate the organization's decade of work in fostering adventure sports.

A major focus of the event was the recognition of Dr. K. Romeo Meetei. A National Adventure Awardee and international judge, Meetei was honored for his dedication to advancing sport climbing throughout Manipur and the rest of the country. During his speech, Meetei noted the rapid rise of the discipline, stating, "The sport’s rapid development followed its inclusion in the Olympic movement and the immense potential of Manipuri athletes is clear."

Sunil Elangbam praised the association for developing talent capable of competing on the global stage. He also pledged support for future infrastructure and training projects. To engage the next generation, MASCA hosted a training session for 200 students from various schools and colleges, highlighting the rising popularity of climbing among the youth.

Looking toward the future, Meetei urged the Manipur government to construct an international-standard climbing wall at the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex. He emphasized that the state already produces high-level athletes, citing Maibam Chingkhei as a prime example of local success now competing on the Indian national team at the Asian Games. The event concluded with attendees expressing a shared vision for Manipur to become a premier hub for the sport in India.
