Imphal: Manipur Police hauled in four suspected insurgents and a pile of high-grade weaponry this week. The raids hit Chandel, Thoubal, and Imphal districts, cutting into extortion networks tied to banned groups. Officers are tracking the flow of these weapons.

Police grabbed 34-year-old Chandam Geetchandra Singh in Imphal East on July 3. He belongs to the proscribed UNLF (P) and was staying in the Reliance Trends building when officers moved in. Investigators tied him to active extortion schemes.

Security forces swept through Chandel and Thoubal the next day. They found a massive stash of heat. At Mombi village, the haul included nine single-barrel rifles, two 9 mm pistols, two improvised mortars, a grenade, and 94 rounds of ammo. The nearby Salungpham Uyok Ching site yielded even more gear, featuring two Beretta pistols, 12 grenades, and over 1,200 rounds of varied ammunition.

Three more militants hit the deck on July 4. Officers arrested Ningombam Ajitkumar Singh, Laishram Surjit Meitei, and Laishram Birjit Singh for extortion in Imphal. Police officials stated, "Further investigation is underway." The team also seized a Honda Activa scooter during the arrest.
