Manipur Police Seize Over 1kg of Brown Sugar in Two-Day Drug Sweep

Imphal: Manipur police and security forces took four people into custody during back-to-back drug busts in Imphal East and Thoubal districts. The raids happened over two days as officers cracked down on local narcotics trafficking. They bagged more than one kilogram of suspected brown sugar total.

A joint team moved on the Minuthong area of Imphal East on June 22. They caught 35-year-old Md. Wahidur Rahaman, a Bishnupur native living in Mantripukhri. Agents found him carrying about one kilogram of the illicit substance. Police officially booked the suspect under the Porompat Police Station jurisdiction.

The operation continued into the following day. Police hit Thoubal district on June 23 and grabbed three more men from Lilong Sambrukhong. Officers seized two soap cases packed with 80 grams of suspected brown sugar from the trio. The suspects are Sureiya alias Naha, 37, 33-year-old Md. Tamijuddin alias Sanatomba alias Nahatomba, and 31-year-old Md. Sarafuddin alias Mamei.

Authorities confirmed the arrests. "Police said further legal proceedings have been initiated in connection with the seizures as investigations continue."
