Imphal: Manipur Police rescued two Assam residents from illegal confinement in Ukhrul district on Friday. Kasob Kachari, 29, and Ajay Gogoi, 33, were held as collateral for an unpaid financial debt. Police acted after Munin Kachari filed a complaint at the Titabar Police Station in Jorhat, Assam.

The ordeal began on June 12. Dibyajyoti Saikia reportedly left the men in Khamsom, Senapati district, with an unidentified person to cover outstanding dues. Security forces traced the pair to Changta village. They moved the men to Senapati Police Station on Saturday. They are now with their families.

The main suspect remains at large. Police are hunting for the individual responsible. Officials confirmed, "No arrests have been made so far in connection with the case."

In a separate operation, security forces swept Mombi village in Chandel district. They found a massive pile of weapons. The haul included nine single-barrel rifles, two 9mm pistols, two improvised mortars, a grenade, and 94 rounds of ammunition. No arrests followed the weapons seizure. Investigators are working to track where the guns came from.
