Manipur Police Officer Killed During Drug Operation, Suspect Arrested

Imphal: A police officer from the Thoubal district Commando Unit died on Wednesday after being attacked during a drug enforcement operation. The incident occurred around 8:20 pm when a team detained two suspects based on intelligence regarding illicit drug trafficking.

During the detention, 25-year-old Md. Naobi, also known as Mahil, allegedly stabbed Havildar Kh. Suresh Singh of the 4th India Reserve Battalion. The officer suffered critical wounds and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Thoubal District Hospital. Following the attack, both suspects fled the scene.

Thoubal district police launched a widespread search operation, resulting in the arrest of the primary suspect, Md. Naobi, on Thursday morning. Authorities continue to search for the second individual involved in the incident while the investigation proceeds.

Security forces conducted additional operations across Manipur this week. On June 3, police recovered a significant cache of weaponry in the Imphal East district, including two AK rifles, one Self-Loading Rifle, a carbine, and four hand grenades. Furthermore, on June 2, officers arrested 33-year-old MM Warish in Thoubal after discovering suspected narcotic capsules in his possession.
