Manipur Police Incinerates 40 Kilograms of Seized Narcotics

Imphal: Manipur Police incinerated nearly 40 kilograms of seized narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances at the SHIJA Common Bio-Medical Waste Treatment Facility in Lamdeng, Imphal West. This operation disposed of 39.395 kilograms of contraband as part of the department's Pre- and Post-Trial Drug Disposal Programme.

The destroyed haul consisted of 4.444 kilograms of heroin, 5.353 kilograms of brown sugar, 26.508 kilograms of ganja, 2.668 kilograms of SP capsules, and 0.422 kilograms of WY tablets. These items were collected through coordinated efforts between district police, the Narcotics and Affairs of Border wing, and various security agencies.

Inspector General of Police Ningshen Worngam oversaw the event and emphasized that the destruction serves as both a legal obligation and a necessary social step to keep illicit substances off the streets. He noted that the use of a modern biomedical waste facility ensures both environmental compliance and transparency during the disposal process.

Speaking on the state's commitment to the cause, Inspector General Worngam said, "The disposal exercise reflected the commitment of Manipur Police to combating drug abuse and illicit trafficking, which continue to pose serious challenges to communities across the state." He urged citizens to maintain their support for these anti-drug initiatives to help secure a safer, drug-free future for Manipur.
