Imphal: Manipur Director General of Police Mukesh Singh has issued a firm warning to armed individuals, declaring that anyone caught carrying illegal weapons or firing at security forces will face severe legal consequences. During a security review in Churachandpur district, Singh emphasized that officers would respond with necessary force in self-defense while continuing efforts to restore peace across the region.

The police chief highlighted the lingering impact of the ethnic clashes that began in May 2023, which resulted in the theft of over 6,000 police firearms. Authorities have recovered nearly 70 percent of these weapons so far and continue to push for the surrender of the remaining stock through targeted enforcement and outreach.

To combat the spread of inflammatory rhetoric, the department has launched a dedicated social media monitoring unit. Singh stated that the police will take strict action against those who spread misleading or communal content online. He warned that, "creating, sharing, uploading or circulating misleading, inflammatory or objectionable content on social media platforms would invite strict legal action under applicable laws."

During his visit on June 13, the DGP met with representatives from the Army, paramilitary units, and local civil society groups. While he acknowledged the public's right to demonstrate, he noted that police have already detained several outside agitators for their involvement in recent protests. He urged citizens to avoid violence and instead pursue their grievances through established peaceful and lawful channels.
