Imphal: Manipur Police hauled in three suspects and a cache of narcotics during raids on August 1, 2026. Officers targeted drug trafficking operations in Jiribam, Bishnupur, and Imphal East districts.
Police intercepted a Ford Eco Sport, license plate AS 01DJ 6360, at the Leingangpokpi checkpost near the Assam border. They found 5.21 kg of suspected brown sugar stashed inside the vehicle. Officers arrested 42-year-old Bhima Panika, a resident of Panika Basti in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district. Authorities are currently tracking the supply chain for this shipment.
The force kept the pressure on elsewhere. In Bishnupur district, police raided a home in Kwakta Ward No. 3 and cuffed 27-year-old Shahna. They seized two soap cases holding 70 grams of suspected heroin powder. Meanwhile, Imphal East police nabbed Meraimayum Razak Ahamed, 35, of Yairipok Tulihal Mayai Leikai. Officials identified him as the primary suspect in an ongoing NDPS Act case linked to a brown sugar haul found earlier in a Pajero at a workshop.
The department remains focused on dismantling local supply networks. Official sources confirmed the arrests, stating, "Police have registered a case and launched further investigations to ascertain the source and destination of the contraband."
