Imphal: Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh closed out the first Bishnupur District Olympic Games at Chengei Lampak in Moirang on July 12. The five-day event saw young athletes compete in 16 different disciplines. Bishnupur followed the lead of Thoubal, which pioneered this district-level format.

Dignitaries handed out medals to the winners. The Indian Army provided a band display, and the crowd watched several cultural performances. The Bishnupur District Administration and the District Olympic Association hosted the event under the banner: "One District, One Spirit, Khelo Bishnupur."

Bhalla pushed for the model to spread across all districts. He argued these local contests help spot talent that might otherwise stay hidden. Athletes need these pathways to reach national and international stages, he said. Chief Minister Singh agreed, noting the games create healthy competition. He believes these events help local sportspersons sharpen their performance for bigger stages.

Sports Minister Govindas Konthoujam and Chief Secretary Dr. Puneet Kumar Goel attended the ceremony alongside several state legislators. Officials praised the coaches and volunteers for running a smooth tournament. Everyone hopes this program will keep Manipur at the top of the Indian sporting map.
