Manipur Launches Statewide Drug-Free Campaign for Nasha Mukt Bharat Saptah

Imphal: District administrations across Manipur officially launched Nasha Mukt Bharat Saptah this week, joining a nationwide initiative to combat substance abuse. Running from June 17 to June 26, the campaign aligns with the theme Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan: Viksit Bharat Ki Pehchaan as the country prepares for the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr. Virendra Kumar inaugurated the national observance virtually. During the launch, he introduced a digital dashboard for volunteers and debuted a short film designed to increase public involvement in anti-drug efforts. The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment is coordinating the movement, which unifies state agencies, schools, and community groups.

Imphal East has scheduled a variety of events, including health sessions, signature campaigns, and volunteer registrations. ASHA and Anganwadi workers will also conduct targeted door-to-door awareness visits throughout the district. Meanwhile, the Kakching district administration hosted an event at PR English School featuring hundreds of students and staff. Tennison, a counsellor at the Phidam Integrated Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts, served as the resource person and discussed the dangers of narcotics. He spoke on the harmful effects of drug abuse and the importance of healthy lifestyles.

The week-long schedule includes a special focus on June 21, which marks the International Day of Yoga. Local authorities plan to host meditation and wellness programs tied to the message, Yoga for Wellness, Say No to Drugs.
