Manipur High Court Pauses Cricket Association Hiring and Procurement

Imphal: The Manipur High Court has issued an interim order blocking the Manipur Cricket Association (MCA) from finalizing its current recruitment and procurement efforts. Justice Ahanthem Bimol Singh delivered the directive while presiding over a legal challenge regarding the association leadership.

The dispute stems from a petition filed by Ngangbam Robert Singh, who sought to halt a May 29, 2026, recruitment drive for coaches, technical staff, and selection committee members for the upcoming cricket season. The petition also targets a related quotation notice issued the same day for procurement activities. Representing the petitioner, Senior Advocate K.N. Choudhury argued that these initiatives directly violate a February 13, 2026, court order that restricted the current management to day-to-day administrative tasks.

Legal counsel for the MCA, Senior Advocate N. Umakanta, rejected the claims of wrongdoing and requested more time to submit formal objections. The court confirmed that while the recruitment and procurement processes are not cancelled, they cannot move forward during the interim period.

Justice Singh ruled that the "respondents, particularly the MCA office-bearers and concerned authorities, shall not finalize the recruitment and procurement processes initiated through the advertisement and quotation notice dated May 29, 2026." The court scheduled a full hearing on the matter for June 19, 2026.
