Imphal: Authorities in Manipur issued 42 new licenses for the distribution of Schedule X drugs during a ceremony in Kangpokpi on June 3. The Directorate of Health Services granted these permits to local pharmacy owners to ensure the legal sale, stocking, and exhibition of highly regulated pharmaceutical products.
The Chemist and Druggist Association of Kangpokpi District hosted the event, which saw 25 wholesale and 17 retail licenses distributed. These permits allow businesses to manage habit-forming and psychotropic medications under the strict requirements of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act of 1940.
Hencha Kipgen, president of the local chemist association, explained that these medicines require rigorous record-keeping and prescription-only dispensing. The regulatory framework aims to prevent the misuse, diversion, or illegal trafficking of controlled substances.
Drug Inspector David Letgoulien Gangte attended the event to oversee the handover and emphasize the government’s focus on supply chain accountability. He stated that the initiative reinforces the commitment to operating within legal channels. Association leaders noted that the expansion marks a significant milestone for the district by professionalizing the sector and improving public access to essential, regulated medicine.
