Imphal: A Manipur Fast Track Court sentenced 36-year-old Ningthoujam Bijen to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment. He assaulted a minor girl in October 2012. The judge also slapped him with a 20,000 rupee fine.

Additional Sessions Judge Ashem Tarunakumari delivered the verdict in Imphal on July 4, 2026. The court found Bijen guilty under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code on July 1. Bijen, a resident of Moirang Ngangkha Lawai, committed the act at his home in Konjeng Leikai Lanpoklakpam.

The convict appeared via video link from Manipur Central Jail. During the proceedings, the court recommended that the state grant the survivor 4 lakh rupees. This money aims to aid her recovery.

N Ingocha, the officer who filed the chargesheet in 2015, worked the case for years. The Special Public Prosecutor pushed for the maximum penalty. The defence team asked for leniency, citing the convict's income and family status. The judge ultimately sided with the prosecution. The court stated the compensation is to "aid her rehabilitation and ensure justice."
