Imphal: The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee brought 11 new members into the fold on July 12. Party leaders hosted an induction ceremony to welcome them. The group includes individuals from Thongju, Keirao, Thangmeiband, Uripok, Yaiskul, Sekmai, and Lilong constituencies.

Former police officer Th Brinda Devi is among the latest recruits. She previously ran for office in 2022 but lost to the current Assembly Speaker. She blasted the current state leadership. Brinda said she joined because she believed it was the "only party capable of addressing the state's current challenges."

She pointed to high unemployment and a hollowed-out economy as proof of failure. Brinda also blamed the government for dragging out the ethnic violence that gripped the region throughout 2023. She demanded the state take accountability for the ongoing crisis.

Former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh led the event. He touted the party's history and its role in India's independence movement. He expects more people to sign up soon. Party officials plan to hold additional induction phases as interest grows across the state.
