Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh participated in the 11th Governing Council Meeting of NITI Aayog in New Delhi on Thursday. During the session, which focused on the theme of inclusive human development, Singh detailed his government's progress in restoring order, rehabilitating displaced citizens, and driving socio-economic growth.

Addressing the council, Singh credited a coordinated approach between the state and central governments for the improved law and order situation in Manipur. He reported that approximately 11,000 displaced families have returned home under the Resettlement and Rehabilitation Package. To further support these efforts, the state is seeking additional housing assistance after receiving approval for 5,000 new units under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin.

The Chief Minister highlighted his personal outreach to various communities in districts like Jiribam and Kangpokpi to foster reconciliation. He noted that Jiribam has become a model for peace, where multiple ethnic groups have begun to coexist and return to their homes. Beyond peacebuilding, Singh addressed security challenges along the Indo-Myanmar border, noting that the Ministry of Home Affairs has finished 50 kilometres of fencing to combat illegal activities, with another 80 kilometres currently in progress.

In the sectors of education and health, Singh reported that Manipur maintains an infant mortality rate that is the lowest in India and a higher education enrollment ratio significantly above the national average. He requested that the Centre include Manipur in upcoming national initiatives for research parks and educational hubs to better connect local institutions with global industry.

Reflecting on the state's recovery, Singh remarked that daily life is normalizing and government offices are fully operational. He emphasized that the state is committed to its long-term growth through skill development and connectivity projects. Concluding his address, Singh expressed his outlook for the state's future: "Manipur is marching steadily toward the sunlight of peace and prosperity."
