Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh pressed for state-wide peace on Tuesday. He spoke at a gathering in the Keirao Assembly Constituency in Imphal East. The Chief Minister officially opened five development projects during the event held at Arapti Lilong Mapal Kangjeibung. He told the crowd that healing the state requires setting aside political agendas. Everyone needs to work together now.
Khemchand Singh noted that internally displaced people want to go home. He promised the government will try to make that happen soon. He urged all 36 communities in Manipur to block further violence. He pointed to historical cooperation between the Naga, Kuki, Meitei, and Meitei Pangal groups during the Seven Years Devastation against Burmese forces. Keirao MLA Lourembam Rameshwor Meetei also spoke, voicing optimism for a return to normalcy.
The Chief Minister posted about the work on social media. He stated, "I had the privilege of inaugurating key developmental projects, including a Sports Gallery, Ema Market (Women's Market), two RCC Bridges and a Working Women's Hostel under the 6-Keirao Assembly Constituency at Arapati Lilong Mapal Kangjeibung, today."
The new projects include a Modern Agro Market Complex at Kiyamgei, funded by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region. Construction crews finished two RCC bridges over the Imphal and Iril rivers under the PMGSY program. Other additions include a Working Women's Hostel in Kiyamgei Mamang Leikai supported by MOBEDS, plus a football field, drain, and RCC gallery at the event site.
