Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh's Lower Subansiri district has officially reached full coverage for functional household tap connections. This milestone under the Jal Jeevan Mission guarantees piped drinking water access for all 15,740 rural households across the region.
Deputy Commissioner Oli Perme confirmed the achievement during a review meeting held in Ziro. The infrastructure now spans 200 villages, 109 gram panchayats, and 271 habitations. To maintain these systems, the district established a 10-member technical unit composed of engineers, consultants, and lab assistants responsible for ongoing system oversight.
Officials are now focusing on long-term sustainability to protect water sources from seasonal shifts and climate change. A dedicated committee will work to identify and safeguard dependable water supplies to meet future demand. The district administration also plans to expand coverage to newly formed habitations and increase community involvement through Village Water and Sanitation Committees.
The local government intends to refine service quality and accountability by improving revenue collection and implementing the Jal Seva Ankalan framework. This progress represents a major step forward for the state's efforts to ensure reliable utility services for rural communities.
