Kohima: Longleng officials held a massive safety session on September 10. They met at the Lighthouse School Complex Hub, located at Bautung Government Higher Secondary School. The event drew 790 students, teachers, and staff. Attendees also included representatives from GMS Station, GPS Shauli, and GPA Nyengching. The day focused on stopping school-related gender-based violence.
District Child Protection Officer and SRGBV Chairman Ketobu Vitsu led the training. He worked alongside several experts. SDPO Longleng N Abel Kikon spoke to the crowd. PSC President C Shame Phom, Child Helpline members Achung N Phom and Metlen Phom, and Teacher Counsellor Longkoi S provided instruction. They explained the meaning and forms of violence, safe reporting methods, and the importance of personal boundaries.
Speakers taught participants about the Juvenile Justice Act, POCSO, and the POSH Act. They broke down the roles of students, parents, and teachers in keeping schools safe. The event emphasized equality and inclusion for every student. It ended with an open forum where participants aired their concerns. The organizer noted the goal is creating "a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment." This interactive session helped everyone understand how to stop abuse and report it effectively.
