Shillong: Larry Organic Biofertilizer Unit is changing how farmers work in South West Garo Hills. Located on Melim Road in Chongpotgre, it stands as the only facility of its kind in the region. Owner Paul Moiranthem manages the site, which focuses on replacing harsh chemicals with biofertilizers and biopesticides. The shift helps the rural economy. It also keeps soil healthy.

District Project Managers and Research Fellows from the Meghalaya Basin Management Agency recently toured the site. They wanted to see how the lab equipment and technical team build products tailored to the area. The unit develops these formulas by tracking local soil pH and temperature. The goal is to make farming more resilient against climate stress.

The business is growing its reach through formal agreements. Larry Organic signed a Memorandum of Understanding with CCPGS and CCAU in Barapani to swap technical expertise. This partnership pushes the enterprise to innovate further. According to the company, these moves reflect the "potential of agriculture-focused entrepreneurship to contribute to wider goals such as sustainable production, soil health, climate resilience and improved livelihoods."

The unit acts as a bridge between high-level science and field work. By putting technical tools into the hands of local growers, the facility addresses the unique needs of Meghalaya farmers. It shows how small businesses can solve big agricultural problems.

The facility specifically targets the broader Northeast climate, not just the local area, when formulating its products. By moving beyond generic, mass-produced chemicals, the unit claims these custom-built bio-inputs provide more effective results for the regional soil.

The unit solidified its research backing by naming the academic partner: the College of Post-Graduate Studies in Agricultural Sciences in Barapani. This alliance bridges the gap between lab-based scientific discovery and practical application on the farm.
