KVK Wokha Promotes Sustainable Farming in Soil Health Initiative

Kohima: ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Wokha hosted an awareness and input distribution event at Old Riphyim village on June 17. The initiative is part of the nationwide Khet Bachao Abhiyan, which runs throughout June to promote soil health and sustainable agricultural practices.

KVK scientists led technical sessions and demonstrations focused on organic farming, proper soil sample collection, and testing procedures. They advised local farmers on balanced fertilizer application and integrated nutrient management to help maintain fertility in hill agriculture settings.

During the session, experts highlighted the broad impact of soil quality on the region. "Healthy soil is fundamental to sustainable crop production, food security, environmental conservation and improved rural livelihoods," the scientists stated.

More than 200 participants, including local farmers, women, and rural youth, joined the interactive event. They received guidance on eco-friendly farming methods designed to boost productivity while preserving natural resources. To help improve crop diversity and nutrition, KVK distributed high-quality seeds for Biofortified High Quality Protein Maize, groundnuts, and soybeans. The program concluded with a call for farmers to adopt long-term conservation measures to build agricultural resilience.
