Imphal: The Kuki-Zo Council is demanding a formal investigation into a pre-dawn operation at the home of its joint secretary, Douminlal Haokip. Heavily armed personnel from the CRPF Commando Battalion for Resolute Action searched Haokip’s residence in Bongphajol village, Kangpokpi district, at approximately 2:30 a.m. on July 12.

Haokip, who also serves as the organization secretary for the Kuki Inpi Manipur, was not home during the raid. He was in Churachandpur attending a joint meeting with the Kuki Inpi Manipur president. The council claims the search team failed to produce a warrant or follow standard legal procedures.

The operation left family members terrified. Women and children were asleep inside when the team entered the property. The Kuki-Zo Council described the move as high-handed and a blatant disregard for the rule of law. It has demanded that government officials explain the legal basis for the search.

The Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights also condemned the event, labeling it a gross abuse of authority. It warned that such actions erode public trust in security institutions. The group released a statement asserting: "No security operation, irrespective of its objective, should be carried out in a manner that intimidates innocent families or disregards their fundamental rights."

The council is calling on the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Indian government, and the CRPF to launch a time-bound, independent inquiry. They want those responsible for the procedural lapses held accountable. Meanwhile, the Kuki-Zo Council continues to advocate for security forces to show restraint and respect constitutional safeguards during future operations in conflict-affected regions.
