Imphal: Kuki women under the Kuki Women Union banner began a sit-in protest at Shangkhai in Ukhrul district this Saturday. Supported by the Working Committee of Kuki Civil Society Organisations, the demonstrators are calling for urgent intervention from the district administration regarding restricted access to essential services and freedom of movement.

Protesters displayed signs questioning local governance, including placards reading, "A DC serves every citizen, not selective citizens." Organisers stated that the demonstration will remain active until Ukhrul Deputy Commissioner Uppuluri Chaitanya meets with them to discuss a permanent resolution to their grievances.

The current unrest follows a recent security incident on June 19, where three Tangkhul Naga civilians were held by Kuki volunteers near Mongkot Chepu. Local police from Litan station intervened to secure the release of the three men, who were safely escorted away on Friday.
