Imphal: Kuki Inpi Manipur is calling for an independent judicial probe after an armed assault in Thingkhongjang village. The apex Kuki body claims fighters from the NSCN (IM) and the ZUF-Kamson faction stormed the Kangpokpi district village on Saturday evening. Gunmen set several homes on fire. Two civilians, an unidentified woman and a child, suffered serious gunshot wounds.

The group points to a lack of oversight. Soldiers from the 86th Battalion were stationed nearby during the violence. The organization blasted the incident as a "major security failure" and demanded officials be held accountable for the lapse.

Kuki leadership claims the district police had previously promised to protect these villages, removing the need for local volunteers to stand guard. They are now urging the state and central governments to track down the attackers and address why the military presence failed to stop the raid. Authorities have yet to comment on the allegations.
