Imphal: The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), the representative body for the Kuki people, has officially welcomed the Indian government's decision to form a High-Level Committee focused on demographic changes. The organization described the move as a necessary step toward achieving historical accuracy and addressing what it labels as long-standing falsehoods directed at the Kuki-Zo community.

KIM officials expressed full support for the inquiry, which will be led by a retired judge and a panel of experts. The group stated that they intend to cooperate fully with the investigation to provide a clear picture of the demographic shifts caused by decades of displacement and ethnic violence. According to the KIM, evidence-based research will disprove claims of illegal immigration that they argue are used to undermine their political goals and justify violence.

The organization claims that the Kuki-Zo people have been victims of systemic aggression rather than perpetrators of demographic change. They pointed to historical conflicts, including the 1990s violence involving the NSCN-IM and ongoing tensions starting in 2023, as primary drivers of forced migration and population upheaval. The KIM intends to present census records and documentation of these displacements to the committee to demonstrate how their community has been impacted by the loss of ancestral land and homes.
