Imphal: The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), representing the Kuki-Zo community, has formally expressed deep concern regarding the ongoing regional violence and the perceived inaction of authorities. Janghaolun Haokip, the organization's Information Secretary, voiced disappointment over the lack of progress in resolving critical humanitarian and political grievances that have plagued the community.
A primary demand from the KIM is the immediate arrest of those responsible for the killings of Kuki-Zo church leaders, a case that remains unsolved. Furthermore, the organization is calling for the swift and safe recovery of 14 Kuki-Zo individuals who are reportedly being held captive in the Senapati district.
Tensions have escalated further due to ongoing security combing operations within Kuki-Zo inhabited areas. The KIM contends that these operations are fostering anxiety and fear among local civilians. They argue that while security forces are actively operating in these regions, there has been a failure to apprehend those involved in recent acts of violence and kidnapping. Consequently, Kuki-Zo women in the Kangpokpi district have initiated vigil activities to protest what they characterize as discriminatory security measures.
The KIM has stated that if these pressing concerns remain unaddressed, the community will continue to oppose what they deem unjustified security maneuvers. They maintain that the state and its security apparatus have a fundamental duty to ensure justice, uphold safety, and secure the release of all hostages.
