Kohima: Tribal women organizations in Kohima have scheduled a public rally for June 19 to protest against perceived delays in a sexual harassment case involving IDAN officer Reny Wilfred. Following an emergency meeting, the groups expressed their commitment to supporting survivors and ensuring the legal process moves forward with urgency.
Participants are expected to gather at the Old MLA Hostel Junction at 10:00 am before marching to Raj Bhavan to submit a formal memorandum to the Governor. In a joint statement, the Action Committee for Tribal Women Bodies of Kohima highlighted that the recent developments in the case have left the community feeling "deeply saddened and alarmed" regarding the state of the justice system.
The organizers are inviting the general public, church groups, and civil society members to attend the event. To emphasize unity and collective resolve, attendees are encouraged to wear traditional attire. The demonstration is intended to remain peaceful and respectful, focusing on the broader need for the protection of women and children rather than targeting specific individuals.
The Angami Students’ Union has also voiced support for the rally, urging students and community members to participate in large numbers. Leaders from the movement have emphasized the importance of maintaining discipline and dignity throughout the protest as they advocate for accountability and the rule of law.
