Guwahati: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge demanded the central government tap the PM CARES fund to aid flood-ravaged states in the Northeast. Lives are lost. Infrastructure is shattered across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and Sikkim. Kharge accused the BJP of breaking its pledge to keep the region flood-free.
He claimed floods are now an annual misery fueled by poor planning and weak mitigation strategies. The situation demands more than standard disaster response protocols. Kharge insisted the government provide serious compensation and long-term rehabilitation for displaced families.
The Congress chief called for a massive injection of personnel, cash and supplies to bolster ongoing rescue missions. He acknowledged the hard work of the Armed Forces, NDRF and SDRF teams, yet emphasized that the current scope of the disaster requires a much larger effort. Regarding the scale of the crisis, he stated, "the magnitude of the humanitarian crisis required a much stronger response."
Kharge told Congress workers to hit the ground and help victims directly. The party aims to ensure no household gets left behind while recovery operations crawl forward.
