Kamrup Metro to Open New Rupnagar DC Office in August

Guwahati: The Kamrup Metropolitan district administration is trading its cramped quarters for a new headquarters. The Deputy Commissioner office complex in Rupnagar should open August 15. The facility cost Rs 81 crore.

Construction started in November 2022 under Anand Builtech Private Limited. While the official deadline sits at March 2026, the building is already ahead of schedule. The project hit 88 per cent physical progress and 79.79 per cent financial progress. Finishing touches are all that remain.

The four-storey complex aims to cut the clutter of district governance. The ground floor will pack in high-traffic services like the public facilitation centre, RTI office, e-Stamp services, and the central receipt section. Other floors will house the Revenue Circle, Treasury, Excise, Food and Civil Supplies, Pension, Sub-Registrar, and e-DIST offices. The Zila Parishad, National Informatics Centre, and local labor courts also move in.

Officials believe this centralization will fix service bottlenecks. "Officials said the shift to the Rupnagar complex is expected to improve public service delivery by creating a more organised, accessible and efficient administrative environment."

The site features parking for 104 vehicles total. It includes CCTV surveillance, backup power, and a sewage treatment plant. Engineers built the structure to allow future expansion up to G+5. This move solves major space and parking shortages plaguing the current office. It marks a push to modernize Guwahati administration as demand for services climbs.
