Shillong: The Indian Army showcased its K9 units and new robotic technology during Exercise PRAGATI 2026 in Umroi, Meghalaya. This multinational event, which began on May 20, brings together over 400 soldiers from 12 countries to improve tactical coordination and military interoperability.

Key demonstrations featured specialized military dogs performing explosive detection, tracking, and assault maneuvers. Notable participants included Alan, a Belgian Malinois trained for combat; Deo, a Labrador specialized in finding explosives; and Victor, a Rampur Hound focused on tracking. The inclusion of the indigenous Rampur Hound highlights the Army's commitment to the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, as the breed is recognized for its durability and ability to adapt to diverse climates ranging from deserts to glaciers.

The exercise also introduced robotic dogs, providing a look at the future of combat operations. By pairing these machines with traditional canine units, the Army is exploring how technological innovation and animal instincts can combine to improve battlefield effectiveness. These units serve as critical force multipliers, proving their worth in high-risk scenarios and reinforcing the importance of modernizing operational strategies through both nature and technology.
