Shillong: The 121-year-old Gorkha Thakurbari Radha Krishna Mandir in Upper Mawprem opened its doors again Friday. The historic site received a full facelift. Work finished in 2026. The structure dates back to 1905.
Additional Chief Secretary to the Governor of Meghalaya, HC Chaudhary, led the inauguration ceremony. He filled in for Governor CH Vijayashankar, who could not make the event. The ceremony followed a two-day Pran Pratishtha consecration held on September 2 and 3.
Festivities overlapped with the Shri Krishna Janmashtami Mahotsav. Local devotees gathered at the site to mark the dual celebration. Reflecting on the project, the official program noted, "The temple, established in the year 1905, was reconstructed in 2026, with the inauguration marking the completion of the rebuilding work."
