Kohima: The Indian Red Cross Society Nagaland branch recently hosted a two-day training program for Community First Responders in Mokokchung. Held at Hotel Whispering Winds, the event was organized in partnership with the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority to equip local volunteers with the essential skills needed during medical emergencies, accidents, and natural disasters.

During the opening session, Red Cross general secretary Akhale V. Khamo highlighted the organization's humanitarian mission. She encouraged local youth to join the youth wing and participate actively in service initiatives, emphasizing that the primary goal of the Red Cross is to provide direct support to those in need.

Representing the district administration, EAC Neithozo emphasized the critical importance of this training for Nagaland. Because many villages are located in remote areas with difficult terrain, emergency services often face significant delays caused by landslides and road blockages. He noted that in these isolated regions, community members act as the most effective first line of defense during crises.

The event featured a welcome address by Dr. S.S. Akaba, honorary secretary of the Red Cross Mokokchung branch. Dr. Limanaro chaired the sessions, while committee member Allen Mark Longkumer concluded the program by offering a vote of thanks to the participants and organizers.
