Shillong: Construction crews have finished 76 percent of the massive Dhubri-Phulbari bridge. The span stretches 19.3 kilometers across the Brahmaputra River to link Meghalaya and Assam. It will be the longest river bridge in India.
Workers have completed 74 percent of the financial targets for the project. Larsen and Toubro is building the four-lane structure on NH-127B. The total price tag hits 4,997 crore rupees. A JICA loan covers the cost. NHIDCL officials expect the work to wrap up by September 2028.
The design includes 199 pillars. It turns a massive detour into a straight shot. Drivers currently face a long haul between the two states. The new link will cut the trip by more than 200 kilometers.
NHIDCL officials expressed optimism that the work will be completed within the scheduled timeframe. This project serves as a major boost for Northeast infrastructure. It aims to move goods faster and spark economic growth once traffic starts flowing.
