Agartala: India is bringing back standard tourist visa services for Bangladeshi citizens. The policy change ends a two-year freeze triggered by the 2024 mass uprising. Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi confirmed the update in Dhaka.
Bangladeshi nationals can submit applications starting June 28. Five Indian Visa Application Centres in Dhaka, Rajshahi, Chattogram, Sylhet, and Khulna will handle the intake. These sites will expand their capacity as the program gains momentum.
Trivedi recently met President Mohammed Shahabuddin to finalize his new diplomatic posting. He shared the news at the Jamuna Future Park visa center. "I am delighted to announce the resumption of standard tourist visas. Visa applications will be accepted starting June 28. The issuance of emergency medical visas on humanitarian grounds will continue as before," Trivedi said.
The government halted regular travel during the 2024 political crisis. Officials limited entries to urgent medical cases and special circumstances throughout the blackout. This restoration aims to boost ties between the two countries. It will help citizens travel for business, education, and family trips.
