Imphal: Manipur faces a reckoning in 2027. Former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh says the upcoming assembly elections will determine the state's future. He claims the local administration has failed. Law and order, he insists, has "totally collapsed" under current leadership.
Singh addressed a crowd at the Congress Bhavan in Imphal after a mob of 600 people torched homes in Kanto Sabal. The violence happened despite a massive military presence nearby. Police and fire crews allegedly could not reach the scene. The former leader finds this highly suspicious.
The Congress party president questioned if President's Rule serves any purpose in the state. He accused the government of acting as a remote-controlled entity for the Centre. Silence from the Home Minister only fuels the fire. He believes the people must now decide if the BJP stays or goes.
To bolster their ranks, the Congress party brought in 11 new members this week. Former police officer Th Brinda Devi joined the party alongside ex-BJP candidate Anwar Hussain. They are preparing for the vote scheduled for February 2027.
