Imphal: Manipur Congress chief O. Ibobi Singh signaled a fight for the state's future. The former three-time Chief Minister slammed the government today. He claimed law and order vanished during the current term. He wants a fresh public mandate when voters head to the polls in February 2027.
Singh pointed to fresh chaos in Imphal West. A mob of nearly 600 people torched three abandoned homes in Kanto Sabal village on Saturday. The incident stung because an Army camp sits nearby. Fire services and state security forces stayed back. They never made it to the fire.
"The time has come for a fresh mandate. Let the people decide whether the BJP should continue in power or not. The coming Assembly election will be crucial in deciding the future of Manipur," Singh said. He raised red flags about the state's administration under President's Rule. He questioned if the state actually runs itself or if the Centre pulls every string.
The Congress party is gearing up for the scrap. They recently added 11 new faces to the roster. Former police officer Th. Brinda Devi and ex-BJP candidate Anwar Hussain joined the ranks on Sunday. The party believes these additions will help them challenge the current power structure when the vote arrives.
