Shillong: The Hynniewtrep Youths Council has officially called on the Meghalaya government to intervene as the rising costs of petrol, diesel, and cooking gas continue to strain local households. HYC president Roy Kupar Synrem stated that these price hikes have become a significant burden for daily wage earners, students, farmers, and small business owners.

Rising fuel costs have triggered a ripple effect across the economy, driving up transportation expenses and the overall price of essential goods. The organization emphasized that fuel and cooking gas are basic necessities rather than luxuries, meaning the state cannot remain passive while residents suffer under increased economic pressure.

To address these concerns, the HYC urged officials to review existing state taxes and levies on fuel. The group is pushing for the implementation of special relief measures and subsidies to protect the welfare of citizens. They believe the government must take direct action to ease the current financial hardship and ensure that ordinary families can manage their basic living expenses.
